Imaginary Friends

When I was a kid I had an imaginary friend that went by the name of Scott. I have vague memories of this time, it was sometime before 8 years old. But from what I have been told of my behavior and descriptions of Scott he was a little boy with no arms or legs that would “run” alongside the car. He didn’t like other children and he and I would sit and talk and tell stories and play for hours. The logistics of some of this are left to the imagination of a small child. Honestly with imagination what wouldn’t be possible?

Lu & Dag is inspired by the works of Bill Watterson, and there is a debate that Hobbes was Calvin’s imaginary friend. To Calvin though he was real. So Lu & Dag, they exist in the strip without the presence of adults so far. The only characters that have not seen Dag as far as anyone knows are the two mean kids in the first strip. I think in the C&H strips it was apparent so often that only Calvin could see Hobbes as real. I’m not sure how I feel about that, about what I want to be true in my story. Yaga, Mori, Granny Callie and Hunter are all aware of Dag, as are their individual friends. More cast to come and I think I enjoy the unanswered question.

I have debated introducing Lu’s parents and I may still at some time. It has been hinted that he is in school and has differing ideas from his teacher but until we see it, the whole question of how magic is perceived and how these fantastical characters fit into the world is unclear. Perhaps to both the reader and creator…

That’s it for today. Hope you enjoy the comic. Have a great week.
