Faster than you think
The current storyline for Lu & Dag was inspired by the lingering frigid temperatures. I wanted to tell a short story of their quest for spring. I figured 4 weeks or so would be enough, which is amusing that now 3 weeks into the story we are in a week with temperatures in the high 50’s low 60’s. I suppose I was pretty accurate and should be encouraged. Instead it feels like nature is rushing me along. That’s ok, I think I can wrap up the storyline pretty well here in the next couple strips. This Quest for Spring is introducing a new character and her companion. Kore is another name for Persephone that I felt fit the comic a bit better. And her companion pomegranate which in black and white looks for all the world like a small haunted onion. I was annoyed by that at first then enamored with the little sprite so that is staying. I look forward to wrapping the Quest line up and reverting Lu back to his regular gear. I think drawing him in the winter clothes makes me feel cold.
Other news and updates. I am reading Jeff Olson’s The Slight Edge and Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics as well as absorbing a ton of stuff on the philosophy of Stoicism. Started going for walks again, getting my steps in and working on getting better sleep, eating better, making better decisions. I have been getting up earlier every day, well before my day job so I can journal and enjoy the sunrise. As the year moves on sunrise will get earlier and earlier and once it does morning walks will kick back in. I don’t mind walking in the dark really but the skunks that are waking up and becoming active right now are not the sort of company I need in the morning.
Last thought for this morning. I saw on one of the horrible social media sites a page from my high school yearbook. Myself and Jen in our Junior year of school. It felt crazy on two levels. I can remember that like it was yesterday, I can close my eyes and be in that moment without a problem, it’s that close to the here and now. On the other hand we were younger in that picture than any of my kids are right now. Lifetimes have happened since those pictures. Time is a weird soup.
